While Maddie and I were eating dinner last night (Mike was mowing the yard...what a guy!) the following conversation transpired...
Me: We have bagels to eat for breakfast tomorrow.
Maddie: And doughnuts?
Me: No we don't have any doughnuts, just bagels.
Maddie: Daddy took me to the doughnut store.
Me (surely she must be confused): You mean the bagel store?
Maddie: No, the doughnut store.
Me (getting suspicious): He did? Where was mommy?
Maddie: At home with Grant.
Me: Where did you eat the doughnuts?
Maddie: In the car.
Me (ah-ha...he's so busted...again!): Oh you did. That was very nice of daddy to get you a special treat.
Maddie: Umm hmm.
And then Mike comes in from mowing the yard and I say to him (very sweetly of course) Why didn't you bring me a doughnut? He looked at me and then and Maddie and the guilty look on his face said it all...
