Confession
I have a confession to make...last weekend, we met some friends for lunch in Frisco (a suburb of Dallas) and after lunch decided to drive around and look at houses because we were thinking it might be time to move to the suburbs. Now, not that there is anything at all wrong with the suburbs, but we've always been more of the urban types, preferring close-in, diverse neighborhoods with walkability to shops, restaurants, etc - like Alexandria, where we lived when we were in DC-VA-MD. We currently live in the Lakewood/M Streets area of Dallas which we LOVE but does not have very good public schools...our elementary school is exemplary, but private school is a must after 5th grade. In Frisco the public schools are great from K-12...so, no need for private school AND the property taxes are signifigantly less than in Dallas - and if you live in Texas you know the property taxes here are sky high - over 3% in Dallas (do the math on that one). SO...after driving around for a while we stumbled upon this lovely gated community (aren't they all gated in Frisco?!) called Newman Village with diverse architectural styles and a promising community gathering spot/park/clubhouse/pool it definitely seemed like somewhere I would not mind living. Not to mention the very large, well-appointed home we could own for only slightly more than our current little M Streets cottage. Can you say TEMPTING? And then we got on the toll road to head back home...and 45 minutes later...with no traffic...when we finally reached the front door of our house we looked at each other and realized that we are not suburb people, we probably never will be, and we better start saving for private school.
